No display after momentary Logo splash

I have had my monitor for a few years. Today the screen went black. When I shut it off and turn it back on it will give me the Acer logo then go black again. When my computer first comes on, the screen will come on for a few moments and then go black. The display then stays black until the monitor is shut off and then re-started. Is this a repairable issue or do I need to go and get another one. Russ
