Carriers want to deploy DSLAM solutions
that can leverage their existing telecommu-
nications resources.They are looking for
solutions that control cost, promote effi-
ciency, and simplify operations. The
ADTRAN Total Access 1210 is a temperature-
hardened DSLAM that enables delivery of
24 ports of POTS and ADSL from smaller
Central Offices (COs), Controlled
Environmental Vaults (CEVs), Multiple
Dwelling Units (MDUs), and Remote
Te rminals (RTs). The ADSL is generated
locally and placed, via onboard splitters, on
the same pair as the corresponding POTS
signal for delivery to the customer. The
DSLAM performs Inverse Multiplexing over
ATM (IMA) for up to four E1 IMA links.
ADTRAN has engineered a compact, 1U
high unit that provides RT space savings while
offering multiple options for placement
within the RT. Design flexibility leverages
existing facilities and enables the Total Access
1210 to be mounted as a rack, wall, or vertical
positioned unit inside the RT. It measures 4.45
cm H x 43.82 cm W x 28.26 cm D and offers
redundant power using –42 to –56VDC.
The Total Access 1210 offers a scalable
network interface today with the Quad IMA
module. Future capabilities include Octal
IMA, DS3, and STM-1. These modules assure
easy deployment and dynamic network
utilization, as subscriber needs dictate. Using
multiple shelves for a single network feed can
scale the unit into a system-wide RT solution
with up to 96 ports. It supports an ADSL
service range of 18,000 feet.
Developed with ADTRAN’s concern for
carrier field needs, the Total Access 1210 has
pre-installed fan modules complete with fan
filters. Each fan module and fan filter is inde-
pendently field replaceable. The fans are
controlled by heat-sensing circuits and will
run only when necessary. Front panel access
is available for all connections. The unit is
interoperable with any E1 IMA device that is
built to current IMA specifications, which
includes the Total Access 3000 IMA
Aggregation System.
Management is made simple and conven-
ient through a choice of SNMP, ASCII, TL1, or
10Base-T Ethernet support. Provisioning,
alarms, and performance monitoring are
provided through the local craft interface and
ATM in-band management channel.
ADTRAN’s Total Access 1210 Mini-DSLAM
brings a cost-effective and efficient IMA,
ADSL, and POTS solution to carriers providing
subscriber services at rural CO, MDU, CEV,
and RT sites.
