ADTRAN Octal DS1 IMA Switch User Manual

The Total Access Octal DS1 IMA Access Module is designed to interface
with the Total Access DS3 Cell Switch Module(CSM). Each of the eight ports
provide DS1 interfaces. These can be used to connect the shelf to an
upstream ATM element or to a DS1 IMA unit of a subtended shelf.
The eight (8) ATM DS1s correspond to the eight port interfaces on the
line card. The Octal DS1 IMA automatically swaps from the online to the
offline multiplexer, if one fails or is physically removed. Each of the eight
ports have a single balanced twisted pair for each direction of transmission.
User access to the Octal DS1 IMA Module is through the SCU via the sys-
tem bus of the Total Access DSLAM backplane. The unit retains provision-
ing data in a nonvolatile memory device for recovery after a power loss and
supports optional autoprovisioning through the SCU.
The module detects CRC errors, Bipolar Violations, and frame bit errors
in the loop side receiver. These are used to calculate Errored Seconds,
Severely Errored Seconds and Unavailable Seconds in accordance with
ANSI T1.231-1997.
The Octal DS1 IMA card is capable of both short and long haul signals.
The interface can be configured for the standard DS1 signal (0 to 22.5 db)
or for DSX-1 measured from 0 to 655 feet.
