Solving Screen Problems Continued
Problem Probable Cause Solution(s)
Screen is blank
(continued).
You disconnected an external
monitor while the computer was
on or in Suspend, and the
settings for resolution and
colors are not the same for both
displays.
If the Fn+F4 hotkey does not
switch to the internal display,
restart the computer.
Computer screen is
blank and the
screen on an
external monitor
displays
information.
Display was switched to the
external monitor.
Press the Fn+F4 hotkey to
display information on the
computer screen.
Display on an
external monitor is
distorted.
Incorrect display device drivers
are installed or incorrect
resolution is set.
Double-click the Display icon in
Control Panel, click the Settings
tab, and set the correct display
type and resolution for the
external monitor.
The external monitor is not
Energy Star compliant, but the
Computer Setup Power Saving
Monitor option or the Windows
Energy Star compliant option is
enabled.
1. Press any key or move the
pointing device to restore the
display.
2.
If display remains distorted, turn
the monitor off, then on again.
3. Disable the Computer Setup
Power Saving Monitor option
and the Windows Energy Star
compliant option.
Small red, green, or
blue spots appear
on the computer
TFT display.
Small spots, called on-pixels,
often appear on TFT screens.
Compaq limits the number of
these on-pixels to 0.003
percent of the approximately
1 million transistors that are on
a 10.4-inch display.
This is typical; no action is
required.
When in MS-DOS
mode, the image
on the computer
display does not fill
the screen.
By default, to maintain a high-
quality image, the 800 × 600
models do not stretch the
lower-resolution image of MS-
DOS mode to fill the screen.
If Fn+T does not clear the
problem, contact your
authorized dealer or reseller.
