4.13
Ending remote operation
To cease remote operation, just hang up or press key twice.
Note:
If you don’t enter a command within 60 seconds of entering your passcode,
your fax will cut off remote operation automatically.
Also, the fax will cease remote operation if someone picks up either the
fax’s handset or a connected second telephone’s handset, or otherwise
interferes with the connection (such as by activating a speakerphone or on-
hook dialing speaker).
Selecting answering machine mode remotely
What happens if you’re miles away from your fax and you forgot to set it to
answering machine mode? No need to worry: you can instruct your fax to answer
subsequent calls automatically by just calling your fax and letting it ring more
than 20 times. The fax will change to answer subsequent calls automatically.
Note
: You must record OGM1 (see page 4.3), and set the reception mode to “Tel
Ready” (see page 1.18).
Disabling remote selection of answering machine mode

machine mode as described above:

This is the factory setting. To leave the fax able to switch back to answering
machine mode when you let the unit ring more than 20 times, press
stop
to
cancel the operation. Otherwise, go to step 3.
3. Press
program

Remote Access to Voice Mail Box System
In addition to letting you call in for usual remote access to the answering machine,
your fax also provides remote access to its voice mail box system. And, you’ll be
glad to know, the appropriate commands are identical to those for the incoming
message section. Another similarity is that you can perform multiple commands
on the same phone call. The only difference is in how you first gain remote
access.
Accessing your voice mail box remotely
To access your voice mail box from a touch-tone telephone:
1. Call your fax machine.
2. While your outgoing message is playing, press
#
for about a second.
3. Enter your two-digit voice mail box number, followed by
#.
4. Enter your four-digit voice mall box passcode (not the remote access
passcode), followed by
#
.
5. If the fax does accepts the passcode you entered, you will hear one long beep,
followed immediately by short beeps. The long beep means you’re “in” ----
you can use remote access. The number of short beeps tells you how many
messages (including any memo) are stored in the voice mail box.
If the fax does not accept the passcode you entered, you will hear three fast,
short beeps. If so, enter the four-digit passcode (not preceded by
#
; just start
with the passcode after the first time) more slowly, then press
#
. If the second
attempt also fails, try once more. If the fax does not accept a caller’s passcode
after three attempts, it will hang up.
Note:
As a security measure, your fax’s speaker is silent during any remote
access operations; the only fax audio output during remote access is over
the phone line to you. This assures that no one near the fax can listen in
while you’re operating remotely.
Note:
Once you have gained remote access to your fax, you may perform more
than one remote operation on the same call. You needn’t hang up and call
back just to perform each new remote operation.
Playing (or Stopping the playing of) voice mail box
messages remotely: 1, #
To play your voice mail box messages while calling from another phone:
1. Gain remote access to the voice mail box (see above)
2. Press
1
followed by
#
for about a second each.
