PAGE ORIENTATION
Youmightreasonablythinkof pageorientationas a pageformattingissue.
Toprintwordswidthwiseonapage,however,eachletterineffecthasto lie
onitsback.Soorientationisactuallya fontattribute,and is treatedas such
lateron in thischapter.
Page Length
Thepapertray youhaveinstalledsets the defaultpagesizefor yourlaser
printer.Whenyouwantadifferentsize,andwhenyouchangethetray,you’ll
need to reset that page size. You shouldalwayschangethe page length
be~oreyou send text for printing.The Page Length commandsets the
numberoflinesthatcanprinton apage(linesper inchtimesthenumberof
inches).
The PageLengthcommandformatis:

wheren isthenumberoftextlinesonthepage;itcanbeanynumberbetween
5 and 128.
Thedefaultnumberof linesisthelengthof thepapertraytimes6 linesper
inch.For 11-inchlener-sizepaperthatworksoutto 66lines(that’salsothe
defaultwhenyouhaven’tputin a tray).
If you don’t want the defaultlength,you shouldsend the Page Length
commandbejbreyousendtextforpnnting.Thetablebelowshouldhelpyou
picktherightnumberoflines.Decidewhichorientationandpapersizeyou
want,thenusc then underyourpreferredlines/inch:
If you haveset the paperfeederfromthe frontpanelto “AUTOSELEC-
TION”,a“selectpagelength”command(<ESO&tn P)willautomatically
selectthecassettewhichcontainsthepaperselectedbythecommand.If no
cassettecurrentlycontainstherightsizeof paper,the displaywillask you
to insertthe appropriatesizeof paper.
