Making sure you have everything
Use the two USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports to connect USB
peripherals to the computer.
DEFINITION: USB is a peripheral expansion standard that
supports data transfer rates up to 12 Mbps for peripherals
such as keyboards and pointing devices. USB peripherals
have a single standard for cables and connectors. The USB
standard also allows hot swapping of peripherals.
Right side
The diskette drive allows you to use 3.5-inch diskettes to store
your work or install software. For more information, see Using
diskettes on page 70.
The RJ45 jack provides access to a LAN via a standard Ethernet
®
network cable.
The DVD-ROM drive allows you to use DVDs and compact discs
with the computer. You can use it to install and run programs from
CD-ROMs and to play audio CDs. For more information, see
Starting DVDExpress on page 152.
The modem port enables you to connect the built-in modem to a
standard telephone line.
