Special features
The following features are either unique to TOSHIBA computers or are
advanced features, which make the computer more convenient to use.
Modem The internal modem provides capability for data
and fax communication. It supports V.90 (V.92).
The speed of data transfer and fax depends on
analog telephone line conditions. It has a modem
jack for connecting to a teleohone line. It is
preinstalled as a standard device in some
markets. Both V.90 and V.92 are supported only
in the USA, Canada, U.K., France, Germany and
Australia. V.90 is available in other regions.
LAN The computer has built-in support for Ethernet
LAN (10 megabits per second, 10BASE-T) and
Fast Ethernet LAN (100 megabits per second,
100BASE-TX).
Wireless LAN The Wireless LAN feature is not available on all
models. Where present, it supports the A,B,G and
N standards but it is compatible with other LAN
systems based on Direct Sequence Spread
Spectrum/Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing radio technology that complies with
the IEEE 802.11 Standard.
Password Power-on password protection.
Two level password architecture.
Hot Keys Key combinations let you quickly modify the
system configuration directly from the keyboard
without running a system configuration program.
Keypad Overlay A ten-key pad is integrated into the keyboard.
Refer to the Keypad overlay section in Chapter 5,
The Keyboard, for instructions on using the
keypad overlay.
Instant Security The hot key function Fn + F1 blanks the screen
and disables the computer, providing data
security.
