Your SmartPro 1400 XL has the same functions as the SmartPro 1400 XL described
in the accompanying Owner's Manual, with the following additional features.
“SMART” LAN 4.2 DB9 Ports
Your SmartPro 1400XL features two DB9 ports that may be used to
connect your UPS to up to two workstations or servers. They can be
used with Tripp Lite software and cabling to monitor and manage
network power and automatically save open files and shut down
equipment during a blackout—refer to the software manual for
installation and operation information. The ports use RS-232 communications to transmit UPS
and power conditions. Contact Tripp Lite Customer Support for more information and a list
of available SNMP, network management and connectivity products.
DB9 Port Installation (Optional)*
Using one of the RS-232 serial cables included,
connect one of the serial ports on the back of your
UPS to the serial port of a computer that is to
communicate with the UPS. Load software and run
the installation program appropriate to the computer's
operating system. If you are connecting a second
computer to the UPS, repeat these steps, employing
the unused UPS serial port and cable.
*DB9 Port Installation is optional. Your UPS will operate properly without this connection.
