5 Most likely either your hard drive has died or your windows install has become corrupted. The error means that the default boot device (should be your primary hard drive) will not boot. If you enter the BIOS, you can verify that your hard drive is still recognized and is the primary boot device. If it isn't, you can fix that there. If everything in your BIOS looks in order, you can try to wipe and reinstall windows if you have a DVD or a recovery partition on your hard drive. Try pressing F8 a few times during the boot up process to activate the recovery file. It may be a different function key for your specific model, or you may not have a recovery partition. If you do not have a recovery partition, or cannot activate it, you can try to repair windows using a windows disk. Attempt to get a windows disk the same version as the laptop had installed on it. Should the repair fail, try to format the primary hard drive and reinstall windows. Be aware that you will lose ALL previous data if you reformat the hard drive.
