Does Acrobat Reader9.0 create PDFs on HP 3030 Scanner...

I am able to create PDFs with the HP 3030 multifunction scanner inconsistently. The 1st attempt worked. Do I need to use the Writer/Distiller, now called Adobe.com or Air?
