Some of my old 8MM tapes fit perfectly on the proj...

Some of my old 8MM tapes fit perfectly on the projector but later tapes, say from like 1968-70's, the spindle on the projector is to small (the hole through the center of the tapes got larger in late 60's?) Was there an adapter people used?
