The problem lies in the (very) cheap push switches used in this scale. The ON switch does not work anymore.

Remove batteries. Unscrew the two screws in the back, twist the scale's top plastic cover to remove it, exposing the actual scale, then use an opener tool (or any flat screwdriver for that matter) to release the tabs along the edge (one at the back, two on each side) and open the scale up. Look for the pins of the switches on the back of the PCB (each switch has four little pins protruding through the PCB, forming three little squares on the back). Put the batteries back on and with your wet-ish finger touch the middle switch pins - your scale *should* turn on. If it did, remove the batteries again and unscrew the PCB removing the top cover from it. Use a soldering tool to replace the middle switch (you'll find switches at Radio Shack or online - possibly http://www.amazon.com/6x6x4-5mm-Momentary-Tactile-Button-Switch/dp/B00E1JN6SE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1433451243&sr=8-2&keywords=push+switch+pcb) or alternatively, swap it with either the off switch or the lbs/kg one, assuming you won't be using that button ever again :) Do the same operations in reverse to get the scale back up together.

Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Adrian
