Hi.bought used not working.Unit goes thru startup ...

Hi.bought used not working.Unit goes thru startup but no light .I think the bulb might be bad but the replace lamp indicator is not lit .does unit have to have video source hooked up to turn lamp on also could the reset button cause a problem .
