Apparently Sharp doesn't archive their manuals. According to the person I spoke with, after a certain amount of years, they dump their manuals on units they no longer produce. They tried, but were unable to help in anyway whatsoever, as the model they thought was correct, bore no resemblance to what I have. It's really too bad they stopped, this model is great - except for the "small" fact that there appears to be either no or easy way to access the ribbon cartridge.
