Question About Sharp Fax Machine UX-340L
black line on paper...

under the film,on a arm like thing is a little black piece that all of a sudden is popped up, and we cant get it to stay down, we cant find what it is or does and can that be causing the black line up the side of the paper? It seems to line up with black line, what is it and how can we fix it..
