0 DC Jack may be only a part of the problem. It could have a break that is small enough to supply intermittent power. The Voltage Board is the most common problem for random shutdowns. It is located under the TouchPad and the battery plugs into it. The TouchPad and the DC Jack wires also plug into it. If the grounding wire is not properly placed (near the right hinge on the side of the Optical Drive RAIL) it also stops the LCD backlight lamp from working too. Removal is much easier; starting with the Keyboard Hood, Keyboard, Keyboard Shield, (flip-over) remove screws to release the PalmRest to lift it up. Make sure to unplug the AC Adaptor AND remove the battery first. The power button, keyboard and touchpad flat cable wires must not be pinched; a tab holding them in place is lifted up to disconnect these flat cables. Be careful, these are the most common problems after taking the VAIOs apart. The Voltage Board is only held down by 5 screws (one of them clamps down the grounding wire). Replace the board and leave the rest of the motherboard alone unless you are planning on cleaning out the heatsink, in which case that could also become another problem because the processor always - ALWAYS sticks to the heatsink and there is a good chance of breaking off some processor pins. Using a good vaccuum cleaner hose over the fan blades will draw up the "caked-on" dust from the heatsink FINS. Don't try to vaccuum from the outside (near the printer port) or it will get embedded between the blades and not come out. If this seems too complicated; get a replacement Voltage Board first before taking your VAIO Laptop to a repair center. They will most likely NOT have the part available to them unless it is an authorized Sony Center. And sometimes, those other repair guys may also damage your laptop even further (plus leave out screws forgetting where they go). It would be far better to do this yourself if you have already assembled your own desktop PC in the past. Take your time and remember where each screw goes after taking them out. Have fun!
