ity
finishing
all imageRUNNER 85 output functions
directly from their desktop. A dynamic
image of the installed imageRUNNER 85 is
displayed on the screen, indicating all
available hardware options, paper sizes,
and paper levels. If these attributes
change over the course of the day, the
driver is updated to reflect the changes so
that users are aware of the latest device
capabilities.
More advanced capabilities of the driver
include the ability to save frequently used
print job parameters, add watermarks,
and insert document annotations such
as names, dates, and so on. Users can
also save electronic forms and other
frequently printed files to one of the
imageRUNNER 85’s 100 Mail Boxes. And
Canon’s Page Composer software, a
make-ready tool that is embedded in the
printer driver, allows imageRUNNER 85
users to view the page layout of a docu-
ment prior to printing to ensure that their
output will print as expected.
Connectivity Software Simplified
In addition to easy-to-use print drivers, all
network print controllers ship standard
with Canon’s Remote User-interface (UI)
Software and NetSpot
®
Suite.
Using Canon’s Remote UI™ feature, a
user can access device status and config-
uration, job status, address books, and
more, simply by entering the IP address of
the device using a standard web browser.
Users can stop, start, or reprint jobs, and
send images stored in Mail Boxes, all from
a desktop PC, and with no additional soft-
ware requirements.
Canon’s NetSpot Suite consists of two
standard software utilities, and one
optional utility: NetSpot Console, NetSpot
Job Monitor, and NetSpot Accountant.
NetSpot Console is a web-based utility
capable of installing Canon networked
systems on most customer networks. In
addition to basic installation support,
NetSpot Console also notifies administra-
tors of device status conditions such as
low toner, paper jams, and others. What’s
more, NetSpot Console is also capable of
managing third-party printers complying
with the standard Printer MIB, thereby
consolidating network device manage-
ment via one utility.
To manage and track the progress of print
jobs, Canon provides NetSpot Job
Monitor. NetSpot Job Monitor runs as an
automated task in the Windows
®
Systems
Tray, and can be configured to report job
conditions based on administrator or end-
user preferences. A key feature of NetSpot
Job Monitor is the ability to deliver end-of-
job notification to end-users.
NetSpot Accountant* is an optional
utility that is capable of providing
comprehensive job tracking and analy-
sis for cost-accounting and workflow
optimization. Using NetSpot Accountant,
network administrators can track all
imageRUNNER 85 activities, and bill
internal or external clients for device
utilization.
In addition to the NetSpot utilities men-
tioned, Canon also supplies plug-in mod-
ules for the most popular enterprise-
management applications in use today.
Supported applications include Microsoft
®
Management Console, CA-Unicenter,
HP
OpenView, Tivoli
®
NetView,
®
and BMC
Patrol. Through these plug-ins, Canon per-
mits easy management of imageRUNNER 85
systems
—and other Canon networked
devices—from directly within the enter-
prise-management system console.
