Chapter 1 Cisco AS5850 Product Overview
Field-Replaceable Units
Boots and reloads software images
Provides source clocks used by all feature cards and power supplies
Provides a BITS input BNC connector
Connects to an external alarm source through a connector located on the front panel
Install the RSC card in the Cisco AS5850 in either slot 6 or slot 7. The card plugs directly into the
backplane.
The RSC card consists of the following components:
CPU
RSC (QED RM7000 - 250MHz)
ERSC (Broadcom BCM1250 - 650MHZ).
1Gigabyte of DDR memory on ERSC
I/O controller
Compact Flash memory card
Boot Flash memory
EEPROM
NVRAM
Packet switch ASICs
Fast Ethernet, console, auxiliary and two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

Figure 1-6 shows the RSC components.

Note The universal gateway supports two RSCs for a redundant connection to the network backbone or for
