Speaker assembly
NOTE: In 4540s models, the speakers are mounted to the bottom of the top cover.
NOTE: In 4440s/4441s models, the speakers are mounted to the base enclosure.

Before removing the speaker assembly, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet,
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see
Battery on page 55).
5. Remove the following components:
a. Bottom door (see
Bottom door on page 58).
b. Keyboard (see
Keyboard on page 70)
c. Top cover (see
Top cover on page 82)
Remove the speaker assembly:
1. If disassembling model 4440s/4441s, skip to step 7.
2. Position the top cover upside-down with the front toward you.
3. For model 4540s, disconnect the speaker cable from the system board (1) and remove the
cables from under the power button board cable and from the clips.
4. Remove the cables from under the power button board cable and from the clips.
5. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×7.0 screws (2) that secure the speakers to the computer.
