IBM iSeries Server User Manual

v If you create media on a 9401 Model 150, make sure that you use that media in a 9401 Model 150.
Attention
If you see message CPZ2015, you are trying to install the operating system that is intended for a 9401 Model 150 on
another iSeries model. If you are installing from a SAVSYS media, the media was created on a 9401 Model 150
iSeries server.
v Create or change your user-defined installation program (if you are using a user-defined installation
program). See Installing applications and restoring objects using a user-defined installation program for
information about user-defined installation programs.
v If the target sites will use an alternative installation device, they need both the distribution media and
the Licensed Internal Code CD-ROM.
v The Allow Object Restore (QALWOBJRST) system value specifies whether or not objects with
security-sensitive attributes can be restored. It is important to set the value to *ALL before performing
the following system attributes:
Installing a new release of OS/400
Installing new licensed programs
Applying fixes
Recovering the system
These activities may fail if the value of QALWOBJRST is not set to *ALL. To ensure the System
Security, return the QALWOBJRST value to your normal setting after completing the system activity.
v Use the WRKSYSVAL (Work with System Values) command to determine the setting for the
QALWOBJRST (allow object restore option) system value. The system uses this value to specify
whether or not to restore security-sensitive objects. Such objects include system state objects or objects
that adopt authority. The QALWOBJRST system value defaults to *ALL, but for additional security
controls, you may want to change it to another value. However, before creating the distribution media,
be sure to set this value to *ALL. If the value is something other than *ALL, software installs from the
media may fail making the distribution media unusable.
v Create or change your installation profile or use an IBM-supplied installation profile (if the target site
system is using automatic installation). See Working with installation profiles for information about
installation profiles.
v Make sure that the most current fixes (PTFs) are installed on the central site system. See Managing
fixes with Management Central for information about fixes.
v Compress objects. You can use the Compress Object (CPROBJ) command to compress selected
IBM-supplied and user objects to save disk space on the iSeries server.
Note: You should package the OS/400 Example Tools Library
before distribution to the target site system. Before you
use the Example Tools library on the target system, you
must unpackage it.
Type the following command to package the Example Tools library:
CALL QUSRTOOL/PACKAGE (*ALL 1)
Press the Enter key.
v Rename or delete the history logs on the central site system so they do not get distributed to the target
site system. Do this just before creating the distribution media. To rename or delete the history logs, do
the following:
1. Type the following command to turn all message logging off:
CHGMSGQ MSGQ(QHST) DLVRY(*DFT)
2. Type the Display History Log (DSPLOG QHST) command to make sure that all messages are
written to the history log:
