Symptom Probable cause Action
Nothing appears on
the display
The batteries are not loaded properly.
Verify that the batteries’ polarities =
and - are correct ( P.15).
Battery power is getting low.
Charge the batteries or replace with
new batteries ( P.15, P.17).
The power is off.
Turn the power on ( P.20).
Won’t start
Battery power is getting low.
Charge the batteries or replace with
new batteries ( P.15, P.17).
The power is off.
Turn the power on ( P.20).
The recorder is in HOLD mode.
Release the recorder from HOLD
( P.21).
Unable to record
Low remaining memory.
Erase unnecessary files ( P.45).
The maximum number of files has
been reached.
Change to any other folder
( P.27 to P.29).
Unable to record
through an external
microphone
An external microphone supported by
plug-in power is connected but [Plug-
in Power] is set to [Off].
Set [Plug-inPower] to [On] when an
external microphone supported by
plug-in power is connected ( P.56).
No playback sound
heard
The earphone is connected.
Unplug the earphones to use the
internal speaker.
The volume level is set to [00].
Adjust the volume level ( P.37).
Recording level too
low
The recording level has not been
adjusted.
Adjust the recording level and then try
recording once more ( P.51).
The microphone sensitivity is too low.
Set [Mic Sense] to [High] or [Middle]
( P.50).
This could potentially be because
the output level for the connected
external devices are too low.
Adjust the output level for the
connected devices.
Recording level too
high
The recording level has not been
adjusted.
Adjust the recording level and then try
recording once more ( P.51).
This could potentially be because
the recording level and output level
for connected external devices are
too high.
If you cannot record clearly even
after adjusting the recording level,
then adjust the output level for the
connected devices ( P.51).
