REPLACE OR INSTALL A DRIVE

Preparing the Library
Drive Replacement Preparation
Thissectiondescribeshowtopreparetoreplaceadriveinthelibrary.
Note: Ifyouareinstallinganadditionaldrive,ratherthanreplacinga
drive,skiptoDriveInstallationPreparationonpage 10.
Ifthemalfunctioningdrivecontainsacartridge,attempttousethe
BlueScaleuserinterfacetomovethecartridgetoanemptyslotbefore
performingthestepsinthissection.SeetheindividualUserGuidefor
instructions.Ifyouareunabletoremovethecartridge,continuewiththe
replacementwithoutremovingthecartridge.
Afteryoudeterminewhichdriveneedsreplacing,followthesestepsto
shutdownthedrivesothatyoucanremoveitfromthelibrary.
1. IfthedriveisattachedtoaQIPorifitisadirectattachFibreChannel
drive,skiptoStep 2.
IfthedriveadirectattachedSCSIdrive,SpectraLogicrecommends
shuttingdownandpoweringoffthehostcomputerbeforereplacing
thedrive
2. Logintothelibrarywithsuperuseroradministratorprivileges.
Important
When replacing a drive, the new drive must be the same “type” as the one you
replace.
If the drive to be replaced is the only drive in the partition, the existing partition will
be deleted.
Caution
Improperly removing a device from a SCSI bus can cause a host computer to crash.
If you decide to leave the host running, Spectra Logic is not responsible for any
damage to data or equipment.
