Changing the Shutter Speed
A fast shutter speed can freeze the motion
of a fast-moving subject, and a slow shutter
speed can blur the subject to give the
impression of motion.
1
Set the program AE dial to “S”.
M
2 Select the desired setting.
mode: 1/2 to 1/4000
mode: 1/2 to 1/500*
The smaller the value, the faster the
shutter speed.
* 1/2 to 1/250 when using the fl ash.
To cancel the shutter speed setting
Set the program AE dial to (auto
recording mode).
NOTE
It is recommended to use the tripod (p. 18)
when recording with a slow shutter speed.
Aperture Priority Setting
You can add a blurring effect to the background
by setting the aperture value (F-number).
1

F3.5
M
2 Select the desired setting.
mode: F3.5 to F16
mode: F3.5 to F6.3
The lower the F-number (larger aperture
value), the more blurred the background will
become. The higher the F-number (smaller
aperture value), the clearer the focus will be
for both near and far objects.
To cancel the aperture priority setting
Set the program AE dial to (auto
recording mode).
NOTE
If the image is too bright, set to a larger
F-number. If the image is too dark, set to a
smaller F-number.
