Smart Card reader 686025-001
Before removing the Smart Card reader, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.

Remove the battery (see
Battery on page 57).
5. Remove the service cover (see
Service cover on page 59).
Remove the Smart Card reader:
1. Disconnect the Smart Card reader cable (1) from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the
system board.
2. Use the Smart Card reader tab (2) to lift the left side of the Smart Card reader (3) and swing it up
and to the right.
3. Detach the clips (4) on the right side of the Smart Card reader from the base enclosure.
4. Remove the Smart Card reader by sliding it up and the left at an angle (5).
Reverse the removal procedures to install the Smart Card reader.
