Removal and replacement procedures 31
To replace the component:
1. Clean the old thermal grease from the processor with the alcohol swab. Allow the alcohol to
evaporate before continuing.
CAUTION: The heatsink thermal interface media is not reusable and must be replaced if the
heatsink is removed from the processor after it has been installed.
2. Apply all the grease to the top of the processor in one of the following patterns to ensure even
distribution.
3. Remove the thermal interface protective cover from the heatsink.
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the system board, processor socket, and screws, do not
overtighten the heatsink screws. Use the wrench supplied with the system to reduce the
possibility of overtightening the screws.
