11. Install the heat sink and fan assembly and connect the heat sink and fan assembly cable to the
microprocessor fan connector on the new system board. See “Replacing the heat sink and fan
assembly” on page 78.
12. Install the new system board into the chassis and align the screw holes with those in the chassis. Insert
and tighten the screws to secure the new system board in place.
13. Install all memory modules and PCI cards removed from the failing system board on the new system
board.
14. Reinstall the primary hard disk drive with the hard disk drive cage.
15. Reconnect all remaining cables to the system board. See “Locating parts on the system board”
on page 70
.
16. To complete the replacement, go to “Completing the FRU replacement” on page 97.

This section provides instructions on how to replace the primary hard disk drive.
To replace the primary hard disk drive, do the following:
1. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 68.
2. Locate the primary hard disk drive.
3. Disconnect the signal cable and the power cable from the hard disk drive.
4. Press the blue release tab 1 down, slide the hard disk drive cage 2 back, and pivot it outward.
