Microphone Sensitivity/Recording Modes

Sensitivity
Microphone sensitivity is adjustable to meet
recording needs.
Using the MICSENS switch, choose between
the CONF and DICT positions.
CONF : High-sensitivity mode that records
sounds in all directions.
DICT : Low-sensitivity mode suited for
dictation.
Notes
An optional ME7 conference microphone is
recommended for recording conferences in CONF
mode if people speaking are located far away from
the recorder.
Choose DICT mode if you want to use voice-
recognition software, such as ViaVoice from IBM.
Recording Modes
You can choose between two recording modes:
SP (Standard Playback) mode and LP (Long
Playback) mode. Choose one of the modes
before you perform recording. Once you choose
a mode, files are recorded in the selected mode
as long as you do not change the mode.

Press the FOLDER/MENU button
for 1 second or longer.
The menu opens ( P.27).

Press the FF/+ or REW/– button to
open the Recording Mode Setup
screen (REC MODE).

Press the REC/SET button.
The recording mode setup process begins.

Press the FF/+ or REW/– button to
choose between SP and LP.

Press the REC/SET button.
The recording mode setup process ends.

Press the STOP button to close the
menu.
Notes
Choose SP mode for recording meetings or lectures
with crisp clarity.
Choose SP mode if you want to use voice-recognition
software, such as ViaVoice from IBM.
You cannot select any recording mode other than
that of the original file before append, overwrite, or
insert recording.
