Overview
ThisUser’sGuidedocumentgivesageneraloverviewoftheADS5423/24/33andADS5411evaluation
module(EVM)andprovidesageneraldescriptionofthefeaturesandfunctionstobeconsideredwhile
usingthismodule.
TheEVMprovidesaplatformforevaluatingtheADS5423/24/3314-bitanalog-to-digitalconverter(ADC)
undervarioussignals,references,andsupplyconditions.Thisevaluationmodulealsoallowsthe
evaluationoftheADS5411,an11-bitanalog-to-digitalconverter.Thisdocumentshouldbeusedin
combinationwiththeEVMschematicdiagramsupplied.
AnaloginputtotheADCisprovidedviaexternalSMAconnectors.Thesingle-endedinputtheuser
providesisconvertedintoadifferentialsignalattheinputofthedevice.Oneinputpathusesadifferential
amplifier,whiletheotherinputistransformercoupled.
TheEVMprovidesanexternalSMAconnectorforinputoftheADCclock.Thesingle-endedinputtheuser
providesisconvertedintoadifferentialsignalattheinputofthedevice.
DigitaloutputfromtheEVMisviaa40-pinconnector.ThedigitaloutputsfromtheADCarebuffered
beforegoingtotheconnector.
PowerconnectionstotheEVMareviabananajacksockets.SeparatesocketsareprovidedfortheADC
analoganddigitalsupplies,theexternalbuffersupply,andthedifferentialamplifiersupply.
TheEVMcanbepowereddirectlywithonlytwosupplies:a3.3-VsupplyfortheADCdigitaldriversupply
andexternalbuffersupply,and5VfortheADCanalogsupplyifusingtheEVMwithtransformercoupled
analoginputs.Ifusingthedifferentialamplifieranaloginputs,±5Visrequired.Provisionhasalsobeen
madetoallowtheEVMtobepoweredwithindependent3.3-Vsuppliestoprovidehigherperformance.
ExceedingthemaximuminputvoltagescandamageEVMcomponents.Undervoltagemaycause
improperoperationofsomeoralloftheEVMcomponents.
TheEVMprovidesaflexiblemeansofevaluatingtheADS5423/24/33orADS5411inanumberofmodes
