Important:Thefirststrongsignalencounteredmaynotbethestrongestthereis.Donot
stopscanningwhenastrongsignalisfirstencountered.Itisessential
tocontinue
scanninguntilallthebreakersaretestedtoinsurethecorrectbreakerislocated.
Donotletthescanningheadwanderaround.Tooperatewell,theautomaticscanning
memoryneedsaconsistentsignal.
Keeptheredscanningheadatthesameanglerelativetothebreaker
orfusesforthe
durationofthetest.
Keeptheheadincontactwiththebreakerduringeachsweeptoensureconsistencyin
theproximityoftheheadtothebreaker.
Testonlythesamesideofeachbreakerduringatest.Payparticularattentiontothis
whentesting
averticallyhungpanelwhichmayhaveneighboringbreakersmountedin
oppositedirections.
Alwaysresetthereceiver(awayfromthedistributionboard)beforechanginganytest
condition.
AlternateScanningTechniques
Duetothedifferingdesignsofcircuitbreakersitmaysometimesbeunclear
fromtheaboveprocedurewhichoftwobreakersthestrongestsignal
comesfrom,particularlyifitappearstocomefromaboundaryarea
betweentwoadjacentbreakers.Intheeventofthisoccurring,oneofthe
followingvariations
shouldenableclearidentification.
A:Resetthereceiverandscanthebreakersontheoppositesideofthe
switch.Thestrongestsignalmaybefoundatthetopofthebreaker.
B:Resetthereceiverandscanthebreakersata90°angletotheoriginal
scan.Atsomepointastrongersignalwillbefound;scanatthenew
angle.
