802.11b
A wireless networking standard specifying a maximum data transfer rate of 11
Mbps, operating at the 2.4GHz frequency, and providing WEP for security.
802.11g
A wireless networking standard specifying a maximum data transfer rate of 54
Mbps and operating at the 2.4GHz frequency. It also provides backward
compatibility with 802.11b devices, and WEP for security.
Default Gateway
A router used to forward all network traffic not addressed to a station within the
local subnet.
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
A protocol that enables network administrators central management and assign-
ment of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses within a network.
ESSID (Extended Service Set Identifier)
A unique identifier for a wireless network. Also known as “SSID.”
IP Address
A series of four numbers separated by periods identifying a unique Internet
computer host.
ISP (Internet Service Provider)
A business that allows individuals or businesses to connect to the Internet.
