Chapter 1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the FriendlyNET FX4000. This switch combines Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and
Gigabit Ethernet capabilities in a single, rack mountable unit. Combining these interfaces allows the switch
to unclog existing LANs and to provide an efficient, high speed network. The switch features a store and
forward switching scheme. Every optional module has it’s own 12K entry MAC address table to store source
addresses. The backplane of the FX4000 can reach up to 9.6 Gbps, greatly improving network performance.
The FX4000 switch, with 4 optional modular slots, can accept many different media module combinations,
allowing you great flexibility in configuring your network.
