Assigning and Changing an Asset Tag
An asset tag number can have up to ten characters; any combination of
characters, excluding spaces, is valid.
# Assigning or Changing an Asset Tag
1. Do the following before Assigning or Changing an asset tag:
• Perform the steps in "Using the Asset Tag Utility."
2.
Assign or change an asset tag number:
Type asset and a space followed by the new number. For example, type the following
command:
• asset 1234567890
• Press <Enter>.
• When you are prompted to verify the asset tag number, type y and press <Enter>.
• The system then displays the new or modified asset tag number and the service tag
number.
Assigning and Changing an Asset Tag
The asset tag number can be deleted without assigning a new one.
# Deleting an Asset Tag
1. Do the following before deleting an asset tag:
• Perform the steps in "Using the Asset Tag Utility."
2. Assign or change an asset tag number:
• Type asset /d.
• Press <Enter>.

The asset tag utility has a help screen.
