Introduction
This chapter gives a physical and functional overview of the DES-5024. The DES-5024
is an intelligent, managed switch, designed for use on medium sized networks as part of
the backbone or for use with other switches and hubs on a larger network.
There are two optional modules available: a 2-Port 100BASE-FX and 1-Port 1000BASE-
SX gigabit module. The modules can only be installed in slot 3. Optional modules can be
ordered at the time of purchase or later.
The chapter is divided into the following sections. Each section briefly describes the
features of the DES-5024. Most of the topics discussed will be explained in greater detail
later in the manual.
The topics covered are:
Summary of Features
Modules of the DES-5024
Explanation of Front and Rear Panels
Management Methods
