your telephone sets and other telecommunication devices. The
second m ethod r equires a splitter and is ex plained in Chapter
4. If it is determined that a splitter is required, it will b e
installed by your DSL service provider.
Whether m icrofilters or a sp litter is i nstalled, a DSL modem
allows telephone conversation and data downloads
simultaneously ov er the existing telephone line. The
microfilters a nd splitter are c ompletely passive. The telephone
service will work, even i n instances of power outage. T he D SL
modem encodes the data sent from the P C a nd sends it to a
corresponding DSL modem located at the local service
provider’s office.
1.2 Unpacking Instructions
Before unpacking, m ake a pr eliminary inspection of the
shipping box. Any ev idence of dam age should be noted and
reported immediately to a customer support center.
Note: The customer support information can be found in the product
information packet provided by your DSL service provider. Keep the
shipping boxes and packing material for return.
It is recommended that you unpack the equipment on a clean,
flat surface.
1. Place the shipping b ox upr ight. Cut the sealing tape
and then open the flaps.
2. Take out the items in the box. Inspect the product for
damage and verify that all parts are included.
3. Report any d amage or missing parts to the c ustomer
support c enter.
