3. Remove the old battery.
4. Install a new battery.
5. Reconnect all the cables to the system board and close the computer cover. See
“Completing the parts replacement” on page 30.
Note: When the computer is turned on for the first time after battery
replacement, an error message might be displayed. This is normal after
replacing the battery.
6. Turn on the computer and all attached devices.
7. Use the Setup Utility program to set the date, time, and any passwords. See
Chapter 4, “Using the Setup Utility,” on page 43.
Replacing the heat sink
Attention
Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the
“Important safety information” in the ThinkCentre Safety and Warranty Guide that came with

This section provides instructions on how to replace the heat sink.
CAUTION:
The heat sink might be very hot. Turn off the computer and wait three to five
minutes to let the computer cool before opening the computer cover.
To replace the heat sink:
1. Open the computer cover. See “Opening the computer cover” on page 12.
2. Locate the heat sink. See “Locating components” on page 9.
