Introduction to Gigabit Interface Converters
This section describes the Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC)
and label, and provides a GBIC model list.
Product description
Gigabit Interface Converters (GBICs) are hot-swappable
input/output enhancement components designed for use with
Nortel Networks*
products to allow Gigabit Ethernet ports to
link with fiber optic networks.
Figure 1 shows the two GBIC insertion and removal
mechanisms—extractor tabs and extractor handle.
