Troubleshooting
Symptom Probable cause Action
Voice files are not recorded
in stereo
The connected external microphone is
monaural.
When recording while an external monaural
microphone is connected, sound will only be
recorded by the L-channel.
Cannot find the recorded
Voice File
Wrong recording media or folder.
Switch to the correct recording media or
folder (☞ P.19 to P.20, P.23, P.41, P.46).
Noise heard during playback
The recorder was shaken during record-
ing.

The recorder was placed near a cell
phone or fluorescent lamp while recording
or during playback.
Move the recorder.
The settings of the connected external
microphone do not correspond to those
of the recorder.
When a microphone not supported by the
plug-in power function is connected, turn
the [Plug-inPower] setting to [Off] (☞ P.41,
P.44).
Unable to erase
The file is locked.
Unlock the file (☞ P.41, P.47).
The file is read-only.
Cancel the read-only setting of the file on
the PC.
Unable to hear any sound
from the earphone through
the recording monitor
The [Rec Monitor] is set to [Off].
Turn the [Rec Monitor] setting to [On]
(☞ P.41, P.44).
Noise is audible through the
recording monitor
Acoustic feedback is occurring.
When the built-in speaker amps and the
like are connected there is a risk that audio
feedback will occur while recording. It is
recommended that you use earphones for the
recording monitor, or turn the [Rec Monitor] to
[Off] while recording (☞ P.41, P.44).
Conduct adjustments like separating the
earphones from the microphone farther, do
not point the microphone at the earphones,
lower the volume on the recording monitor,
and so on.
