Write-protecting a Memory Stick™
Memory Sticks
™
are designed with an erasure prevention switch to protect valuable data from accidental
erasure or overwriting.
Move the tab to the right or left to set or release write-protection. When the erasure prevention switch is
off, data can be saved on the Memory Stick™. When the erasure prevention switch is on, data can be read
from but not saved on the Memory Stick™.
Formatting a Memory Stick™
Memory Sticks
™
are formatted for immediate use when you purchase them. If you need to reformat a
Memory Stick , use the Memory Stick Formatter software provided with your notebook. For more details
about using Memory Stick Formatter, refer to the help files.
To format a Memory Stick™, proceed as follows:
1 Insert the Memory Stick™ into the notebook.
2 Click the Start button, point to Programs, click Memory Stick Utility and then click Memory Stick
Formatter.
The Memory Stick Formatter window appears.

If you format a Memory Stick™ that already contains data, all the data (including music data) will be erased. Confirm that the Memory Stick™ does
not contain files that you want to keep.
