nectionstoNICinterfaces.
SwitchesaremoremoderndevicesthanHUBSandareusuallycapableof100Mbit/sec(100Base-
Tx)operation.
AsaresultoftherequirementofIEEEEthernetspecsrequiringdownwardcompatibility,all100
Mbitinterfacesmustalsosupportlegacy10Mbitcommunications.Thisresultsinarequiringa
switchtohavememorytostorepacketsreceivedat100Mbitsforretransmissionat10Mbits(Store
andForward).
-TheEIA/TIAstructuredwiringstandardsfortelecommunicationswiring.AandB
versionsareelectricallyidenticalandcannotbedistinguishedwitha
wiringtest.Thecolorcodes
andpairnumberingisdifferent,however,andcaremustbetakentouseoneversionwithina
