Virtual Server
The router normally protects all computers on the local network from out-
side access. The Virtual Server function will forward all traffic on a certain
port to a specified IP address. This is necessary to connect to web servic-
es like NetMeeting.
DMZ
(De-Militarized Zone)
DMZ disables the protection the router firewall provides and opens the
specified computer completely for Internet access. This is dangerous as
hackers may get access to data on your computer, but enables services like
Internet Gaming and Audio/Video Conferencing that might otherwise be
blocked by the router.
Dynamic DNS
Maintaining a web site is difficult if the computer is not on a static IP WAN
address. The Dynamic DNA function allows a web address to be associat-
ed with a changing IP address. Visit www.dyndns.org for more info.
Troubleshooting Guide
A computer network contains many separate pieces of software and hard-
ware that must work together for the network to operate. If any part of the
network does not work, the first step is to reset all networked devices to
give the equipment a clean start.
