TheSW8/12VGAArsswitcherscanbecontrolledviaRS-232usingExtron’sSimple
Instruction Set (SIS
) commands.
TheRS-232portcommunicationsprotocolsare:9600baud,8databits,1stopbit,
no parity, and no flow control. Cable pinouts are shown in the table below.
Only pins 2, 3, and 5 are required. Disconnect all other conductors in the
attachment cable for proper operation.

Rules governing SIS commands include:
• SIScommandsconsistofoneormorecharacterspereld.
• Nospecialcharactersarerequiredtobeginorendacommandsequence.
• Whenacommandisvalid,theswitcherexecutesthecommandandsendsa
response to the host device.
• Allresponsesfromtheswitchertothehostendwithacarriagereturnanda
linefeed(CR/LF=

Switcher-initiated (unsolicited) messages
When a local event, such as a front panel operation or error condition, occurs, the
switcher responds by sending a message to the host. Switcher-initiated messages
are listed below:
