• When you carry your computer.
This is a normal characteristic of a hard disk drive and is not a defect.
The hard disk drive does not work.
On the Boot menu of the BIOS, make sure that the hard disk drive is on the Boot priority order list. If it is on
the Excluded from boot order list, it is disabled. Select the entry for it on the list and press the Shift+1 key.
This moves the entry to the Boot priority order list.
Optical drive problems
Print these instructions now and keep it with your computer for reference later.
You hear a noise from the drive when the CD, DVD, or CD-RW disc is spinning.
If the disc is not correctly loaded on the center pivot of the drive, it might rub against the drive cover and
make a noise. Make sure that the disc is loaded correctly in the drive.
The tray does not open even if you press the eject button.
When your computer is not turned on, pressing the eject button does not cause the drive tray to open. Make
sure that the computer is turned on and that the drive connector is rmly connected to the computer.
If the tray still does not open, make sure that the computer is running, and insert the end of a straightened
paper clip into the emergency eject hole. The tray will open.

Backup cannot be made.
Make sure that:
• You are not using a Windows operating system.
• There is not enough space to store the backup data. You will need to free more hard disk drive space on
your system partition (C drive).
Fail to restore system partition to factory default.
The system partition, such as the partition size or the drive capacity of C, has been modied.
A password problem

I forgot my password.
Do any of the following:
• If you forget your user password, you must take your computer to a Lenovo authorized servicer or a
marketing representative to have the password changed.
• If you forget your hard disk drive password, a Lenovo authorized servicer cannot reset your password or
recover data from the hard disk drive. You must take your computer to a Lenovo authorized servicer or a
marketing representative to have the hard disk drive replaced. Proof of purchase is required, and a fee
will be charged for parts and service.
• If you forget your supervisor password, a Lenovo authorized servicer cannot reset your password. You
must take your computer to a Lenovo authorized servicer or a marketing representative to have the
system board replaced. Proof of purchase is required, and a fee will be charged for parts and service.
