Frequently-asked questions
The following is a list of possib le situa tions tha t ma y a rise during the
use of your c omputer. Easy answers and solutions are provided for
each one.
I pressed the power switch and opened the display, but the computer
does not start or boot-up.
Look at the Power indicator (refer to “Indic a tors” on page 11):
• If it is not lit, no p owe r is be ing a pp lie d to the c ompute r. C he c k
the following:
• If you are running on ba ttery power, it may be low and una ble
to p owe r the c o mp uter. C o nne c t the AC a d apte r to re c ha rg e
the ba ttery pa c k.
• Make sure that the AC adapter is plugged in properly to the
computer and to the power outlet.
• If it is lit, c he c k the following :
• If the Sleep indicator is lit, the computer is in Sleep mode.
Press a ny key or ta p on the touc hpa d to resume.
• Is a non-bootable (non-system) diskette in the floppy drive?
Remove or replac e it with a system diskette a nd press Ctrl-Alt-
Del to restart the system.
• The operating system files may be damaged or missing. Insert the
startup disk you c reated during Windows setup into the floppy
drive and press Ctrl-Alt-Del to resta rt the system. This will
diagnose your system and make nec essary fixes.
Nothing appears on the screen.
The c o m p ute r’s power ma nagement system automa tic ally bla nks the
sc reen to save power. Press any key to turn the display bac k on.
If pressing a key does not turn the display bac k on, two things might
be the cause:
• The brightness level might be too low. Press Fn-

(decrease) to adjust the brightness level.
• The display devic e might be set to a n external monitor. Press the
display toggle hot key Fn-F5 to toggle the displa y ba c k to the
computer.
