• If a data storage card doesn’t work properly, check if it has a write-protect switch
and that it’s set properly.
• If a modem card doesn’t work properly, in Windows Help use the modem
troubleshooter.
• In Windows Help, use the PC card (PCMCIA) troubleshooter.
For file and drive problems (Windows 95)
• If the floppy drive doesn’t work, check that it’s set up as a 1.44-MB drive. Press
FN+F2 to view or change this setting.
• If a SCSI drive doesn’t work when you connect it, make sure you turn off the
OmniBook while you connect the device, that each device has a different SCSI
address, and that the SCSI bus is terminated.
• If you need more disk space, in Windows Help use the disk space troubleshooter.
• If files on a drive become damaged, run ScanDisk (in System Tools).
For serial and infrared problems (Windows 95)
• If a modem doesn’t work properly, in Windows Help use the modem troubleshooter.
• If an infrared data connection doesn’t work, make sure you’re using the COM4 port
(not COM2). (For printing, use the LPT3 port instead.)
• For an infrared connection, start Infrared Monitor before you connect. In Control
Panel, double-click Infrared.
• For an MS-DOS program using an infrared connection, run the program in an MS-
DOS Prompt window instead of in MS-DOS mode.
For sound problems (Windows 95)
• Check the playback or recording sound levels, channels, and muting—double-click
the speaker symbol in the taskbar.
• Press FN+F9 several times to make sure the upper sound limit isn’t too low. Or press
FN+F2 to view or change the upper sound limit.
For general operating problems (Windows 95)
• In Windows Help, use the appropriate troubleshooters.
For display problems (Windows 95)
• Check that the display settings match the characteristics of your display. In HP User
Tools, click Display and check the Settings tab.
For power and startup problems (Windows 95)
• If the OmniBook doesn’t start successfully, see the next heading.
