Operation
ThissectioncoversbasicoperationoftheKVMswitch;logginginforthersttime,turningtheinstallationOFF/ON,hotplugging
and port selection.
Powering Off and Restarting
Ifitbecomesnecessarytopower-OFFtheKVMswitch,followthesestepstopoweritbackonproperly.
1. Power-OFFtheKVMandallcomputersthatareconnectedtoit.Note: You must disconnect the power cords of any
computer that have the Keyboard Power On function.
2. Wait10secondsafterpoweringeverythingdownandthenpowertheKVMswitchbackON.Ifyouhaveshutdownmore
thanoneKVMswitchinadaisy-chain,power-ONtheKVMclosesttoStation1rst.WaituntiltheKVMsStationIDappears
onthefrontpaneloftheunit,andthenpower-ONthenextclosestKVMswitchtoStation1,repeatingthisstepuntilall
KVMsarepoweredON.
3. AfterallKVMswitchesarepoweredonandtheirStationIDsdisplayed,power-ONtheconnectedcomputers.
Hot Plugging
TheB064-016supportsHotPlugging,meaningcomponentscanbeunpluggedandre-pluggedwithoutshuttingdowntheKVM
switch.Inordertoensureproperfunctionality,followtheproceduresbelow:
Hot Plugging KVMs in a Daisy-Chain Installation
KVMswitchescanbeunpluggedfromonepositioninadaisy-chainandre-pluggedintoanotherposition.Afterdoingthis,you
mustresetthestationIDsintheOSDsothattheproperdaisy-chainorderisrecognizedandtheOSDmenuscorrespondto
thechange.(SeeRESETSTATIONIDonpage16fordetails.)
Hot Plugging Connected Computers
Youcanunplugacomputer’sSIUfromoneoftheKVMscomputerportsandplugitintoanother.Afterdoingso,youwillneed
toupdatetheportsettings(PortName,OperatingSystem,etc.)intheOSD.(ThesesettingsareexplainedintheF4:ADM
sectiononpage16.Also,theportsettingsassignedtotheportyoujustmovedthecomputerfromwillremainthesameas
before until you change them. Note: If a computer’s operating system does not support hot plugging, this operation may not
work properly.
Hot Plugging Console Ports
Thekeyboard,monitorandmousecanallbehotplugged;however,thefollowingconditionsmustbenoted.
•Ifyouunplugamouse,thesamemousemustbepluggedbackin,orallKVMsinadaisy-chaininstallationmayneedtobe
powered-OFFandrestarted.(SeePoweringOffandRestartingonpage8.)
•Ifacomputer’soperatingsystemdoesnotsupporthotplugging,thisoperationmaynotworkproperly.
•Ifthereisnokeyboard/mouseresponseafterhotplugging,performakeyboardmouseresetbyholdingdownpush-buttons1
and2forthreeseconds.ThismustbedoneforeachKVMinadaisy-chaininstallation.
Logging In for the First Time
AftersettingupyourKVMinstallation,therstscreenthatyouwillseeistheloginscreen,promptingyouforaUsername and
Password.IfyouaretherstpersontoaccesstheKVMswitch,thedefaultusernameandpasswordareblank.Simplyhitthe
[Enter]keytwicetoopentheOn-ScreenDisplay(OSD)asanadministratorandaccesstheKVMswitch.Note: For security
purposes, it is strongly recommended that you change these to a unique username and password. If you are not the first
person to access the KVM switch, enter in the username and password as given to you by the KVM administrator.
Port Selection
OnceloggedintotheKVMswitch,youcanaccesstheconnectedcomputersviapush-button,OSDorhotkeycommands.The
sectionsthatfollowdescribeeachofthesemethods:
Push-Button Port Selection
Toaccessacomputer/server,simplypressthepush-buttononthefrontoftheKVMthatcorrespondstotheportthatitis
connected to. Pressing push-buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously for three seconds will perform a keyboard/mouse reset on all
ofthecomputersconnectedtothatKVMswitch.Pressingpush-buttons15and16simultaneouslyforthreesecondsinvokes
