This section provides a brief overview of Fast Ethernet and Ethernet
switching technology.
Fast Ethernet Technology
Fast Ethernet, or 100Base-T, represents a non-disruptive, smooth evo-
lution from the current 10Base-T technology.
The100Mbps Fast Ethernet technology:

Extends the 10Mbps Ethernet standard to transmit and
receive data at 100Mbps

Maintains the CSMA/CD Ethernet protocol

Allows for simple upgrades, since it is compatible with
