5-2 Chapter 5: BIOS setup
5.1 Managing and updating your BIOS
The following utilities allow you to manage and update the motherboard
Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) setup.
1.
ASUS EZ Flash (Updates the BIOS using the motherboard support CD
during POST.)
2. ASUS AFUDOS (Updates the BIOS in DOS mode using a bootable USB
ash disk.)
3.
ASUS CrashFree BIOS 2 (Updates the BIOS using the motherboard
support CD when the BIOS le fails or gets corrupted.)
4.
ASUS Update (Updates the BIOS in Windows
®
environment.)
Refer to the corresponding sections for details on these utilities.
Save a copy of the original motherboard BIOS le in case you need to
restore the BIOS in the future. Copy the original motherboard BIOS using
the ASUS Update or AFUDOS utilities.
5.1.1 ASUS EZ Flash 2 utility
The ASUS EZ Flash 2 feature allows you to update the BIOS without having
to go through the long process of booting and using a DOS-based utility.
The EZ Flash 2 utility is built-in the BIOS chip so it is accessible by pressing
<Alt> + <F2> during the Power-On Self-Test (POST).
3. Press <Alt> + <F2> during POST, the following screen appears:
When the correct BIOS le is found, EZ Flash performs the BIOS
update process and automatically reboots the system when done.
To update the BIOS using EZ Flash 2:
1. Download the latest BIOS le from ASUS website (www.asus.com), or
obtain it from the support CD.
2. Save the BIOS le to a USB Flash, then boot the system from the USB
Flash.
Do not shut down or reset the system while updating the BIOS to
prevent system boot failure!
