4.2 TROUBLESHOOTING CHECKLIST
If the 2E253-49R is not working properly, refer to Table 4-2 for a checklist of problems, possible
causes, and recommended actions to resolve the problem.

All LEDs are
OFF.
Loss of power. Check for proper connection of the power
cable and its access to a live outlet.
Installed improperly. Ensure that the 2E253-49R was installed
properly according to the installation
instructions in Chapter 3.
No Local
Management
Password screen.
Autobaud is enabled, but
the baud rate has not yet
been detected.
Press ENTER (RETURN) (may take up to
four times).
Terminal setup is not
correct.
Refer to SmartSwitch Series 2E253, 2H252,
2H253, and 2H258 Local Management
User’s Guide for proper setup procedures.
Improper console cable
pinouts.
Refer to Appendix A for proper console port
pinouts.
Corrupt firmware image,
or hardware fault.
If possible, attempt to download the image to
the 2E253-49R again. Refer to Section B.3
for instructions to clear NVRAM.
Cannot navigate
beyond Password
screen.
Improper Community
Names Table.
