Canon 5D Mark III Experience

With certain lenses (listed in the Canon manual as groups F to H on pages 83-84) the
number of available AF points from which to manually select will be fewer. Also note
that with the settings that limit the number of points to less than 61 Points, the AF Point
Expansion and Zone AF Autofocus Area Modes will still function and take advantage of
all 61 points. You may find that a combination of fewer AF Points (41 or 15) combined
with an AF Point Expansion Autofocus Area Selection Mode will allow you to work more
quickly, easily, and/ or accurately.
Select AF Area Selection Mode
This setting is to enable or disable the different autofocus AF Area Selection Modes so
that you will be able to choose from them all, or so that you can limit the number of
modes available for selection. When setting this menu item, turn the Quick Control Dial
to select the desired modes, then the SET Button to activate or de-activate (see Figure
21). You may wish to enable all of them at first and experiment with the different
modes, and then later disable the ones you find that you do not wish to use. That way
when you are later quickly selecting between the different AF Area modes, you won’t
have to “click” through all the options to get to the mode you desire. More about the
Autofocus - AF Area Selection Modes, the differences between them, and their uses
later in the Autofocusing chapter of this text.

Modes will be available for you to select.
